When I try to add a book online there is an "error searching Amazon" message then after searching other sources
the add dialog box disappears if I searched by ISBN while it is searching the Spanish Cultural Center or if I searched
by title it just reports "not found".

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and the version of Alexandria
that downloads from the Ubuntu software center is 0.6.5. I
tried to change to 0.6.6 but cannot seem to get it to
install either directly from the Ruby site or using
Synaptic. Since I have only been using Linux for about two
months I am probably missing something very simple, so any
help would be appreciated. Thank you.

It could be the "buggy Hpricot" problem - please ensure
you're running the latest version of alexandria (0.6.6) and see
the note about Hpricot at the end of the page here:
