By "free-form", do you mean that the user could define
the format of the CSV file to be imported (as in the OpenOffice.org
screenshot attached) and then decide which columns map to which
Alexandria Book properties?
If so, that's a large feature - particularly the GUI part of
it - so I've moved this report to "Feature Requests".
I don't have time to work on such a feature straight away, since
I'm the only developer working on Alexandria right now. If you
could sketch out what such a feature should do (use cases) and
maybe what the GUI for it might look like, that would be a big
help.
In the mean time, it is possible to import from CSV in Goodreads
or LibraryThing format. You can discover the column layout from
the respective websites. Using something like OOo Calc, you
could transform your existing CSV file into one of the supported
formats. (Note that Alexandria determines which format it is
by examining the column header names and positions.) |
