6.6.6 Beta 2 will not even install on Ubuntu 9.04/9.10 due to
the "buggy Hpricot" problem.

I see this issue with the Synaptic package installer when trying
to install the 6.6.6. beta 2 from the debi file. The installer
shows:
Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libhpricot-ruby (>=
0.8.1)

I forced it on the 9.10 installation with manual installation
of lighpricot-ruby (and some other pre-reqs as I read in the
Linux Journal "Economy Size Geek" column by Dirk Elmendorf
about library management packages) before installing Alexandria,
but now Synaptic refuses to process any other updates until it
resolves "conflicts" by removing Alexandria.

This makes for a real Catch-22 situation in trying to maintain
that 9.10 installation for other stuff like security updates
- I do not see how to do that unless I remove Alexendria before
each update, then re-install it afterwards.

Downloaded and installed 0.6.6-1 and it works. Hope it makes
it into the patches for lucid.

I have just checked for the version. libhpricot-ruby is
8.8.2-1 but Ubuntu lucid lynx ships with alexandria 0.6.5.
Maybe that is the problem. I'll try to get 0.6.6 installed
and report again.

I found the book okay with Alexandria 0.6.6. This sounds like
the "buggy Hpricot" problem, look closely at the version
of libhpricot-ruby on your system. If it's "0.8-1"
then it's a version with known bugs. Try upgrading
to "0.8.1-1" or "0.8.2-1".

You can find the latter at
https://launchpad.net/~alexandria-team/+archive/ppa/+sourcepub/90
0046/+listing-archive-extra

Download and install libhpricot-ruby_0.8.2-1_all.deb and
libhpricot-ruby1.8_0.8.2-1_ARCH.deb (where ARCH is i386 or amd64,
depending on your system). Then restart Alexandria, and it should
find books again.
