Detailed description 
I would very much appreciate if Maruku did not force me to use XHTML in in-line HTML. E.g. single tags in HTML5 do not
end with "/>", but with ">" only. Or is there any option flag which would make Maruku
HTML5-friendly?

Here, here. Markdown.pl optionally outputs HTML instead of XHTML
