GlassFish runs on JVM. Restarting would be pretty easy for a
native process but from inside JVM it is pretty non-trivial and
I don't think it being implemented for quite some time.

Now that daemon mode is supported on linux and solaris and assuming
you are running on either of these platforms you can stop it
using SIGINT.

STOP command can not work in a generic sense. For example, if
there are 4 instances of glassfish are running on one machine,
which one do you want to stop?

We will soon provide a capistrano recipe that can automate the
deployment. re-start will be treated as stop and start. To start,
just type 'glassfish' to stop send SIGINT using the process id.

Let me know if this solution would work for you, if it does I
can close this ticket.

I'm not sure. I was just thinking some sort of way to stop
and restart. I suppose SIGHUP should restart the gf and
SIGKILL should stop it. And take command line options like
stop or restart.

Exactly what kind of kill you are talking about, is it SIGHUP
or SIGKILL? An example of what you would expect will be helpful.
