option --pdf fails on Windows platform

Detailed description 
I have MikTex 2.6 distro installed ok on an XP machine. The .tex output is generated ok, but the call to pdflatex fails.
Program pdflatex reports about ouput dir "./xxx" not found. Maybe is the use of "./" on windows

Would you please give a higher priority fixing this issue?
On windows (not just XP, but win2000 and Vista too) it looks
like it's impossible to generate PDFs :(.
