SuSE uses a completely different setup for its init.d scripts to that used by RedHat, Debian etc. To make the scripts work correctly, the INIT INFO comment block needs to be present.
Add the service either by "enabling" it in YaST or by running insserv <scriptname>
To check the INIT INFO block is correct, do a dry run using insserv -n <scriptname>
