It is sorry to hear such news. 

The best is to keep it free and developed. Considering the resources constraint, I think it would be great if any user could join the development team. Semi-commercial is a sub-optimal option, it is better than abandonment. Weft QDA 2.0 looks promising. Of course, whether this commercialization works depends on if the users are willing to pay for it, thought it is low cost.
