I'm not 100%$ sure how they are selected either, or how often they are updated. That makes it tough to say it's wrong though, I think. I mean it doesn't even say Top *RubyForge* Projects, which is what I assume we're talking about here. If it did, I can imagine people complaining that real "top projects" are on Github now anyway. Without counting Github, Rails will never make the list, which seems almost silly. Even on RubyForge though, I see two different "top" groupings on the home page. Which one are we aiming for? My point that I don't think we should lose a lot of sleep over this. We show some popular projects on the homepage. I think top 30 is a fine definition, considering all the variables involved. I don't think we really promise anything more than that. As an alternative, we could just pull the listing if it's upsetting people. Without counting Github, Rails will never make the list, which seems almost silly. Actually, while including GitHub would be a good idea, Rails does very much make this list without it. http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/libraries/top-projects/ has Rails in 3rd place (and Instant Rails in 4th). However, when people see, e.g., the projects I initially listed, but not Rails, that does seem silly. The person who originally told me about it called the absence of Rails "an example of vanity turning into stupidity" (he didn't know they were chosen randomly).
