Sorry for the delay in replying, Tilman, and thanks for the
contribution.  I'll add the iterator patch to CVS now, but I'll leave
the whitespace patch to Doug, as it might require some tailoring and
documentation.

Do people think that whitespace errors should be turned on by default?
