From scot.dalton at nyu.edu Thu Jun 16 14:08:08 2011 From: scot.dalton at nyu.edu (Scot Dalton) Date: Thu, 16 Jun 2011 14:08:08 -0400 Subject: [Umlaut-general] Umlaut Primo Service Refactor Message-ID: <4DD2E2B2-E36D-47AF-9585-AFBC9E4665CE@nyu.edu> Hi all, I just wanted to let you know that I'm doing a major refactor of the code related to the Primo service in Umlaut. I'm including tests and hoping that the implementation is a lot cleaner than the original. It will offer a few more optional service types and hopefully be a bit faster. I'll also include benchmarks so that we can track performance going forward. I'll make another announcement to list when I'm finished, hopefully next week. There will be a few configuration changes to bring the service in line with the other Umlaut services, but they will be thoroughly documented and straightforward. I'll also make sure it's backward compatible with existing configurations, but will mark the old settings as deprecated in the logs and phase them out at a future date. Jonathan, I'm managing the refactor in a local svn instance and will merge back to the rubyforge svn trunk once complete. I keep saying I mean to do an overhaul of Umlaut in general, but you've definitely beat me with this one, there'll be no conflict, it'll be months until I can even start, sigh. I improved/added a few services, e.g. referent enhancement/primo_source, added benchmarks and tests and made the RDocs more informative and robust. Please let me know if you run into any issues and/or have any questions.
