From what I'm told, only high profile packages ever make it to an older release via backports. There was a years worth of development between the two- I've been in turmoil over this for a few months now- the qtruby guys(rdale, the head guy behind qtruby) had already told me more or less not to use 1.4.6 because it was missing so many things. The entire patch system that's currently there is to fix horrible bugs in 1.4.6 (like the menu not displaying). From an upstream supportability pov, feature pov, and ease of development point of view, I think 1.4.9 is probably the way to go looking forward. I know ruma isn't going to be ready for production use for a quite a while. It sorta makes sense to use dependencies that will be commonplace when ruma is finally released. Doom3 had insanely high requirements when it was announced, but after it had been out for a month those requirements were still high, but reasonable. Eventually we'll have to move to 1.4.9. That leaves us with: - using 1.4.6, waiting till gutsy comes up and waiting for it to stabilize before switching to it - compiling and installing the 1.4.9 packages ourselves (they're really a mess.) - pulling from gutsy and pinning the packages As I said, I've been debating this for a while- it's an exception to the version creep rule. This is the only major package that should have this issue. As a one-timer, it sucks but provides us with a lot of benefit for a little hassle. -Jesse On 9/21/07, ruma-team at rubyforge.org wrote: > > Well, > > We can roll back the last revision, and wait for qtruby 1.4.9 to be > supported cleanly on Feisty. Start writing tests, too- I don't want to break any functionality that you're expecting to be there. Hmm, never mind, seems to have resolved itself. Another thing: I forgot to upload PasswordDialog.rb with the last commit which broke things, sorry for that. I fixed it now. I finally managed to use ssh with public key authentication. Had to change the default in .subversion/config to ssh = $SVN_SSH ssh -t1 Maybe we should put a short tutorial for using public key to docs/ From ruma-team at rubyforge.org Sun Sep 30 21:48:48 2007 From: ruma-team at rubyforge.org (ruma-team at rubyforge.org) Date: Sun, 30 Sep 2007 21:48:48 -0400 Subject: [Ruma-team] small changes to Plugin.rb and ServerDialog.rb In-Reply-To: <200709301705.31976.l.hoeppner@gmx.net> References: <200709300357.49630.l.hoeppner@gmx.net> <301383980709300707g363d0272k230d42b1ce603eee@mail.gmail.com> <200709301705.31976.l.hoeppner@gmx.net> Message-ID: <301383980709301848w1a637d6ds841a56914a3a11bd@mail.gmail.com> interesting- I didn't have to modify the config..
