As to the verbosity of html: I don't think it's so bad; it's easily understandable and while there may be shorter/neater representations of what we want to display, they probably all come with their own weight. Currently, we don't have that much html in ruma. For other solutions we should have an eye on the cost-benefit ratio. On the other hand, I'm always curious about new technologies you'll dig up.
