Don't you take offense at the description as a "project [..] to
bring CPAN-like functionality to Ruby?"  ;-)

Seriously, CPAN.pm is less than impressive, and the two really good
things about CPAN seem to be
 * size
 * namespace management

RubyGems isn't about the second, so are the automated install and the
desire to have lots of gems enough to be qualified (somewhat discreditably
IMHO ;-) as "CPAN-like"?
