I'm interested in helping translate. I'm been both a rubyist and hobbyist student of Japanese for about 5 and 7 years respectively. My Japanese level is approximately JLPT 2 and I'm a native English speaker. I work professionally with ruby on a daily basis. I'm interested in starting by tackling chapter 9, and would also like to enquire about making the project available on github, is that something that has been considered? Message-ID: Actually, I thought this site/list is/was the canonical version. Just briefly looking into the matter I see there have been various efforts over the years. I guess I'll need to read through the various efforts and work out a good approach. It seems someone will need to lead the effort, so I'm happy to put up a github repo and maintain that. Perhaps collating all the existing info/versions (assuming the licences permit that) I can find in one github repo would be a good start. With most of the community moving to ruby 1.9, interest in the 1.6/1.8 RHG has dwindled over the years. If you'd like to help translate however, your efforts will most certainly be appreciated. Was also thinking of using Jekyll/github-pages too. For me, it's partially an effort to learn about ruby's internals, partly to practice my Japanese, and partly to bring it to others, so the fact that it's obsolete already is not necessarily going to completely put me off. Message-ID: Hi Alex, OK sounds like an interesting mix. I'm a British rubyist living and working in London. I've never lived properly in Japan, but I've spent a total of 6 months on 4 holidays there. By the way, I've just setup http://ruby-hacking-guide.github.com/ under the organisation https://github.com/ruby-hacking-guide It was my first time using Jekyll, so I've just copied the files across. What I'd like to do is properly credit the original translators and incorporate the commits from the SVN repo, but it was easier to work out how to use Jekyll that way first. Now I can see how it fits together I'll maybe use the fork of the SVN repo, and move the files around until they work as a jekyll site. I'll also need to update the intro to reflect the fact that it's been unmaintained for a while and is now hosted on github. Once that's done, I want to take a look at the other attempts to translate, and hopefully in a similar fashion pool together the commits/means of attribution so they can belong as part of the same repo, (hopefully). And once all the boilerplate maintenance stuff is out of the way, I'll get onto looking at what else needs translating, and maybe do some actual translation. Also if there's anyone on this list that wants adding to the github organisation ruby-hacking-guide, just let me know your github username and I'll give you access.
