Hi there,

My name is Chris Dawson.  I lived in Japan for two years, one while an
exchange student in high school, and then again for a year at Kanazawa
University, and graduated with a double degree in Japanese Language
and Literature and Computer Science from the University of Washington
in the US.  I've been doing a lot of programming with Ruby lately,
mostly in Rails.  I speak Japanese fairly well, and read and write.  I
pay attention to the "ruby-list" in Japanese.  I would like to know if
there are things I can assist with translating the Ruby Hacker's
Guide.

Well, I only see one thing: start translating a chapter ;-). If you
choose to do it, the chapters already taken are those that are in SVN
(http://rubyforge.org/plugins/scmsvn/viewcvs.php/en/?root=rhg), plus
chapter 5.

please translate the chapter about the garbage collector. many people
consider this chapter most interesting, but it is very long, so nobody
took the challenge yet ;)
but any other chapter would also be great ;)

I will do so.  Do you know which chapter this is exactly?  I've been
reading the original Japanese versions and suppose I could look in the
TOC, but if you have it handy...

first of all welcome aboard! I'm sure your jouzu-ness in japanese  
will be a big help for us, I'll feel free to ask you things :)

I think Meinrad missed it, but the Garbage Coll chapter is the fifth  
chapter and I'm translating it. It's long and I'm slow so it's not  
ready yet, but I'm working on it.:)
If I remember correctly and its ok for you I think its time to start  
with part number 2.

OK.  Before I saw this email I ran this little script and indeed
confirmed it is Chapter 5:

So, what do you mean by "part number 2?"  Is that section two of
chapter 5?  I am happy to get started on it.

Part 2 means chapter 8 to 12 (cf table of contents http://rhg.rubyforge.org/).
Note: I've started translating chapter 9, but nobody is working on chapter 8.

Well, chapter 5 is not in the repository yet so it wouldn't have helped ;).
