Our situation is that I'm a junior developer (graduated last Dec.) and fairly new to rails (loving it tho). We've recently lost our senior rails guy, and we're short on technical knowledge. We're basically looking for someone to help me out when I get in jams and probably take on projects themselves. Ruby's sprintf function seems like the right choice to produce this file, but I was disappointed to discover that named attrs only work in Ruby 1.9.2. Unfortunately, I'm stuck on 1.8.7 for the time being. So while I really want to be able to do this: sprintf "%3s %2.1d", :code => "foo", :total => 5 I'm stuck with doing this: sprintf "%3s %2.1d", "foo", 5 Not cool. Anyone know of a technique that could help me here? The formatting is quite complex and it would be much easier to just pass a hash of attrs as opposed to specifying them all as direct args to sprintf. It would also be far more readable. I'll bite the bullet if I have to, but thought I'd drop a note to the list first. Matthew -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We're looking to extend our engineering capability beyond the current distributed team of 4 (2 in the Bay Area, one in Nashville, and one here), and we're looking for experienced Ruby developers for: - full-time positions with the company, like this one: http://www.caring.com/about/senior-engineer.html - some shorter-term contracts You'd be based in North Carolina, with occasional visits to California. We're an agile shop using scrum to manage our development cycles, we move fast, and we're passionate about helping people care for their parents as they age. If you'd like to chat with me about what we do, and what you might do with us, please e-mail me either at this address or at patrick at caring.com. This is a great opportunity for anyone who's looking to get going with Ruby. It looks like there are some spots left, too! If you're planning to attend, please note the course starts at 6pm. We'll resume regular West End meetups in April. -TJ
