In particular, I'm looking for someone who is also well versed in Python who could compare the two languages. Bias toward Ruby is fine, as long as you're informed on both sides. ;-) Our group several members who are excellent (or beginning) python coders and have never really seen the beauty of ruby or been motivated to use it. Others in our group will also have no python experience and will know Java or C from school. The goal is to show off the beauty of the ruby language and motivate them to learn more on their own. This could include showing off the usefulness of everything being on object (and therefore having methods), mixins, syntax niceness, talking about how the languages JIT compile / run interpreted, or anything else you think appropriate. Of course if you're working for a local company here, we want to give you a chance to put in a plug for your company and recruit people if you're looking. If you could come speak to our group, I'd appreciate hearing from you! Edward -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... What I need is a way to capture validation errors that don't completely prevent a record from being saved, but show up in some sort of warnings hash. There is a plugin for this, but it's old and I'm not sure how good it is: http://github.com/juliamae/soft_validations I can roll something by hand, but if there is a way to accomplish this through an existing gem or plugin I would rather do that. It seems like a fairly common use case. Any suggestions? The concept is sweet, and even more importantly he's doing a *lot* of amazing leg work to test the hypotheses around it Lean Startup style, so there's a lot of actually validated potential. Ya'll know that I don't regularly "go fishing" for other people, so you also know this is a serious opportunity. There are various specific things he's looking for, but the only things that really matter are that you be: * "Smart and gets things done" * Strong technically * A gamer ...in that order. What he's working on will probably entail some Ruby (he's worked with me after all!) but would probably involve as much or more mobile (iOS, Android) work. And a lot of it is more about game design than it is about coding specifically. Sound intriguing? Drop me a direct reply back and I'll initiate the next step of the conversation. I don't brag on Terralien much, and I probably should more. We've built a heavily entrepreneurial culture, have a killer design and development team, and we're turning out amazing projects for really great clients. We work with entrepreneurial clients over the long term - we're still doing regular work with the second client I brought on after starting Terralien four years ago, and we do a lot of business with clients we've had for over a year. Working as part of the Terralien crew is an opportunity to get involved with our clients' cool businesses while also having the flexibility to build your own side projects. After just being myself running things for a long time, Terralien brought on a project manager last year, and he has been a *big* help. He's done an amazing job at helping the team solidify our project execution, and both our clients and our crew love how much smoother projects go now that he's involved. In addition to project management, he and I have been working to put a better marketing and sales process in place. We've made some great initial improvements to how we market and how we sell, but are looking to take it to the next level by bringing on a marketing/sales person to focus on that aspect of the business exclusively. As with everyone who works with Terralien, I'm looking for a "smart and gets things done" kind of person who's ready to dig in and make things happen vs. being told what to do each step of the way. So why am I looking for a marketing/sales person on the Raleigh.rb mailing list? Well, here's my bottom line requirements list in priority order: * Technically savvy enough to grok and sell our services * Looks at marketing and sales as systems to be improved * Passionate about helping early stage companies succeed While I know we all like to code, I know some of you are also great at selling things you're passionate about, and might be looking for a change from (or supplement to) writing code. I also know that, even if you're not into sales, this group has in aggregate worked with some amazing marketing and sales folks. So if you or someone you know fits these criteria and is interested in talking with me about getting involved with the Terralien marketing and sales process, I'd love to have a chat. Even if you're not sure if you or someone you know would be a fit for what Terralien needs, still drop me a line. I'm super flexible on most things, so lets chat before discounting any possibilities.
