[raleigh.rb] UUID library?

I use uuidtools: http://github.com/sporkmonger/uuidtools/tree/

but I don't believe it provides an algorithm that can generate 8
character UUID's. In fact, I tend to doubt there's any algorithm that
can generate 8 character universally unique identifiers.
