Message-ID: <3560cf6d0607181658h22f50bccwca87c3bf1daa732a@mail.gmail.com> I'm trying to introduce several of my co-workers to Ruby in the hopes of sneaking in a Rails app or three. I think they like Ruby but are kind of flailing around for a good editor to use. I'm used to using Emacs for everything non-Java related but alot of them haven't strayed outside Eclipse in quite a while. I was going to suggest RDT but I have no idea how mature and/or buggy it is. Any suggestions? Thanks, Kevin -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... When you say "editor" do you mean "text editor like emacs" or "IDE like Eclipse?" Also, the O/S you're using influences your options, but you didn't say. It works quite well for me. (RadRails seemed too heavyweight to me.) I got used to the Eclipse environment during my fling with Java and feel right at home. I use the basic features of RDT, though: syntax highlighting and the test runner. I haven't played with the other features yet so I can't speak to their bugginess (or lack thereof). Once of these days, I'll probably move to the dark side and get a Mac. Until then, RDT works just fine. Good luck! I'm not sure if it's suited for general-purpose Ruby editing, but you said you're trying to sneak Rails in. As for me, it's Textmate all the way. -TJ --- Kevin Smith wrote: > I'm trying to introduce several of my co-workers to Ruby in the hopes of > sneaking in a Rails app or three. You mean "from" the dark side, right? :) -TJ From nathaniel at talbott.ws Wed Jul 26 19:07:38 2006 From: nathaniel at talbott.ws (Nathaniel Talbott) Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2006 16:07:38 -0700 Subject: [raleigh.rb] New Location & New Regular Time Message-ID: After hearing how many folks made the last meeting (30! Wow!), what a great time everyone had, and how packed out Panera Bread was, it became pretty clear that it's time to take raleigh.rb to the next level. We're outgrowing our space, and we need better facilities for doing presentations. Several folks mentioned that they could hook us up with a better venue, and after some back and forth, we finally have everything arranged. The next meeting, and all meetings for the foreseeable future, will be at Red Hat HQ: Red Hat Headquarters 1801 Varsity Dr Raleigh , NC 27606 Wi-fi will be available, food is fairly close by, and we'll have top- notch facilities for presentations. My personal thanks go out to Kevin Smith and Red Hat for providing this new location - it's great to have tech organizations that truly support the local tech community. One thing this change in venue required is moving our regularly scheduled date, since the TriLUG already has the Red Hat facilities on the second Thursday of the month (and besides, I know some folks are torn between raleigh.rb and TriLUG). Thus, the third Tuesday of the month will be our new regular meeting date - sorry if this causes scheduling conflicts for anyone. I'm really looking forward to the next meeting - Justin Gehtland and/ or Stuart Halloway will be giving us a walkthrough of Streamlined, their hot Rails-based auto-admin framework. More details (and RSVP) here: http://ruby.meetup.com/3/events/5023024/ See you there, -- Nathaniel Talbott <:((><
