However, while working through Chapter 5 I found an example that I could not complete. It was the regular expression example found in chapter 5 where Why is showing how to remove stuff found in parenthesis. The regular expression did not perform as expected so I looked further into and found a better regular expression that performed a little better. sent1 = "This is a string with (some parens and stuff in it ) that I hope my regexp will remove properly" sent2 = "this will test multi(((pules of stuff in the parenss)) here is some more" sent3 = "Third test ))) ((( will this fail or work?" sent4 = "Fourth test I hope this ((( does indeed( wor)k) ou)t))) or I might look like a fool" Why's regular expression: sentence.gsub( /\([-\w]+\)/, ") Regular expression I found to perform as intended: sentence.gsub(/\s*\(+(\S|\s)*\)+/, '') Again I love the book just wondering if anyone else found this too? However, when I did find it and found out what was going on and why it was not working and how to get it work properly just goes to show that Why's books is truly a great book. -- Adam QED From jacob.tomaw at gmail.com Tue Aug 19 11:59:23 2008 From: jacob.tomaw at gmail.com (Jacob Tomaw) Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2008 15:59:23 +0000 Subject: New invitation from Jacob Tomaw Message-ID: <20080819163436.790E318585C7@rubyforge.org> You have been invited to connect as friends with Jacob Tomaw Please accept or reject this invitation by clicking below: http://www.bebo.com/in/7670115480a386004443b135 ......................................................................
