I have posted about this before, I have the feeling that Facets override Hash#fetch() somewhere in the code to accept one parameter instead of two (and thus breaks some valid ruby code). Does that ring any bell for you?

may I suggest that you add JSON.load / JSON.dump as aliases to JSON.parse / JSON.unparse. This will make the JSON parser more consistent with the YAML parser.
