like I said in the last paragraph, I have no idea how it ideally
should react.  So I'm actually unable to write any test cases, because
I don't know _what_ to test.

I could write a testcase for the error right now, but that wouldn't
really solve the problem.

Like you said: 'back to the drawing board'.
