[Mongrel] Mongrel with mephisto on a Virtual Private Server

Why don't you just run mephisto on a random port, like say, 8000

and then use apache's proxypass directive to forward requests to the
mephisto instance.  I believe the very first setup would do well for
you on the mongrel/apache page.
