I believe the whole project is frozen (Luben?), but the code is free software and is still there ;-) Good luck!! As a maintainer of mailr I will be happy to discuss with you your needs and how mailr could fit into your project. Unfortunately there hasn't been any activity recently because the developers are overwhelmed with other projects, but mailr is not dead yet and hopefully we'll be able to activate it again.
