As part of my Ph.D work, I'm building a web portal for organizations, the project is hosted in Rubyforge: http://rubyforge.org/projects/move/ I'll like to use Mailr as webmail, but as a module in the application, and connected with other modules that, hopefully, will appear, like blogging, calendar, etc.... I've been reading the Mailr code, but I'm new in Rails. Do you have ideas about how I could integrate Mailr in MOVE? Would you be interested in some kind of collaboration between the two apps? Cheers. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I answer myself: http://rails-engines.org/ So, now the question is, are you interested in helping Mailr to become an Engine? Thank you. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Mailr was originally built as a part of much larger application. I guess that it is very similar to what you intend to build - it has webmail, basic content management system, blog, calendar, photo gallery, newsletters, etc. That's why all the Mailr's code is placed in the components directory. During the time when we wrote Mailr there were no Rails Engines. I am definitely interested in possible collaboration between your project and Mailr. In fact we have plans to release the already mentioned bigger application as an open source project. It will take some time to clean the code and maybe rewrite the components as engines, but hopefully this will be done during the next month or two. Do you have something written about MOVE which can give me an idea what do you want to build and what are the similarities between our projects? Not much written yet. I will explain it briefly. I participate in a cultural center that houses many groups (about music, theater, neighbourhood, biological agriculture, etc...) There are already many social networks that can become stronger and expand through Web 2.0 apps. This is what I'm researching. I want to set up a web portal for this cultural center. The first app is the webmail, because people are familiar with it. Then I will gradually introduce other apps (bloging, calendar, CMS, etc...) I want the portal to be "built" by the people. They will say what the want, what they like and what they don't. I trust in Rails and Rails Engines for this to be possible, as I'm able to reuse and custumize every aspect of the application. So, my first priority is integrating the webmail with the login engine. Then I will be interested in the "enginazation" of other apps. Cheers. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Can I have some advices? Do I fork the project? There is no need to fork the project because the "enginezation" of Mailr is the next logical step. I just created branch "engine" in the SVN repository so you can start working in it. I hope to have time next week to join your efforts. Just send me desired username / password (to lubo at manolov.org off-list) and I'll give you commit rights for this branch. Best regards, Luben
