Hi,

Thank you very much for your help. But as I predicted the chain of lacks  
went ad infinitum.
I had to install irb to find out I needed mkmf.rb which in turn happened  
to be in ruby1.8-dev. And even the dev packet didn't resolve my problems.  
Enough is enough. I'll wait for the work out version. Good luck to you all.
