If I try to enable passwords in database.yml for the mysql account, I get a "Before updating scaffolding from new db schema, try creating a table for your model" message if I try to do a simple script/generate scaffold command. I get the same message if I use a bogus password, but if I disable the password (and do the same in mysql of course) things work as normal again... any ideas? I can use the standard mysql client to access the database when the password is set so there is nothing wrong with the privileges. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Spaces http://spaces.msn.com/?mkt=nb-no Vis hvem du er og hva du vil From mortonda at dgrmm.net Sat Jul 1 12:13:55 2006 From: mortonda at dgrmm.net (David Morton) Date: Sat, 01 Jul 2006 11:13:55 -0500 Subject: [Instantrails-users] Connection problems to DB using password In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <44A69F43.2050905@dgrmm.net> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Al Olese wrote: > Hello, I am using InstantRails 1.3a and I am having trouble. Ok, now that I have a windows box running again.... :) How did you go about changing the password? That error message about "mysql.user table is not updated to new password format" is the problem. I have not had any problems unzipping any of the InstantRails releases. For fun I just downloaded the InstantRails-1.3a-win.zip file from ruby forge again and it unzipped just fine without prompting me for a password. I am using 7-zip as my unzip tool. I would suggest trying another unzip tool and/or downloading it again to see if that solves the problem. Most of them I can understand but the \ruby is the one that concerns me. Under c:\instantrails\ruby, you have \lib but in that directory is another \ruby which has a \1.8 ( this seems to contain other ruby libraries \gems (this has only a \1.8 directory under it - yet in there is a \gems which looks like extensions , including the rails stuff There seems to be alot of different gems directories. Which because I'm new to Ruby didn't concern me but was in the back of my mind to understand better. Particulary when I wish to do updates, gem installs, or even svn (which I have not really got to yet). As far as the FXRuby question, I see 2 packages under the \gems\1.8\gems fxruby1.2 and fxruby1.4.4. Yet when I try to install it fails with a "not found in repository" which I'm guessing is the local repository ? Then why wouldn't it go out and look for it elsewhere ? Also on the FXRuby page it talks about the libFOX-1.4.so file which I can't find anywhere. Hope these questions are somewhat understandable at least. Appreciate any help I can get. Message-ID: <1152912800.44b80da036d57@postoffice.tpg.com.au> http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/73035#new Hi, I think I have network issue on my XP PC here trying to run up InstantRails and using it. I create an application and run up the server "ruby scripts/server" and it runs up, but then when I try to browse to it the browser just sits and spins and doesn't connect :( Note that I posted this at http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/73035#new however (a) no luck yet and (b) perhaps this is an instantrails related issue??? * I've tried: localhost:3000, 127.0.0.0:3000, 127.0.0.1:3000 + the IP address that "ipconfig" reports but no luck. * I did have ZoneAlarm installed but I deinstalled this and restarted. * I did a month ago come across this problem and someone had posted a windows command prompt line that did something like clear the XP network connections or something, however now I can't find this again :( Can anyone help / give pointers re getting my browser to be able to connect to webbrick on XP? (sounds stupid I know, but I'm stumped) Thanks in advance =================== thanks, but I think none of these help - can anyone shed any light on this one? This would manifest itself in trying to run the InstantRails sample apps, as well as trying to install Rails with the stock version of ruby (e.g. "gem install rails" would hang when it attempt to download stuff). I asked in several places for help, but no one had any suggestions. Running "netsh winsock reset" and rebooting cleared the problem immediately. Thanks to Greg for sending this out. Would developing in sqlite, and deploying to MySQL require any code changes / compromises, ( other than changing the production settings in config.yml)? If not, then it's not worth reducing the size of the package. For the following reasons: 1. Apache, MySQL and phpMyAdmin are known quatities that work. 2. An application developed in InstantRails can be deployed to a Liniux hosting server without any changes. ( most of them provide MySQL). Of course, you could create an InstantRailsLite . . . :) -Larry On 7/22/06, Curt Hibbs wrote: > > On 7/21/06, Tim Uckun wrote: > > > I was wondering if instantrails is planning on migrating to mongrel? > > > > Yes. Theoretically that should be the case, that's the whole purpose of an object relational layer after all. I can certainly see problems if people used mysql specific SQL in their code though. Otherwise if they built their schema using migrations I think it should work fine. It would be an interesting test though.. Anyway I have another question: Where should I put any additional gems I download for my rails app? I am planning on developing on windows but deploying on Linux. Here's a repost of one person's solution: From: Joerg Diekmann Date: Jul 5, 2006 7:41 AM Subject: [Rails] Re: Performance (cough cough) Poor: Instant Rails To: rails at lists.rubyonrails.org Hi Greg, I had the same problem. I solved it by changing my .htaccess file. I changed this line: RewriteRule ^(.*)$ dispatch.cgi [QSA,L] to RewriteRule ^(.*)$ dispatch.fcgi [QSA,L] That speeded things up a lot running my apps with scgi and InstantRails. I noticed it because my Cookbook app was fast, but any new ones I added were slow. This was one of the few files that would be different and could affect the way Rails works.
