I didn't forget about Instant Rails :-) Message-ID: <31d15f490608022141l1ea2d9aqb5db9c6661ad4085@mail.gmail.com> I know you guys haven't heard anything from me in a while. As usual I've been extremely busy. The Rails book the Bruce Tate and I did for O'Reilly is finished (we are currently reviewing the final production copy) and is due to be printed sometime this month. And I finally got version 1.8.4 of the One-Click Ruby Installer for Windows out the door. So now its time for me to turn my attention back to Instant Rails. Originally, I wanted to just leave IR 1.x alone and concentrate on IR 2. But since there's no way IR 2 will be ready until sometime next year, I really need to update IR 1.x to replace SCGI with Mongrel proxied through Apache. I do want to try to move forward with IR 2 in parallel if any of you have some bandwidth to spare. Over the next week or so let me try to put together a plan that we can agree on and move forward with. David, do you have time over the next few weeks to help me with IR 1.4? Tanner, do you have the time to take the lead on IR 2? I can manage the process and help set direction and design, but I won't be able to lead the actual development work until I finish with IR 1.4. Thanks to all of you for being so patient. I still think that IR 2 is going to one hell of a cool project! Curt -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I'm busy for another week or two, finishing another project, and also getting used to "back to school" schedules... But let me think about it for a few days. I just got back in town from a week away. > I'm going to be pretty busy over the next few months, but I should be > able to put some time towards working on the actual setup, if someone > else will be able to take charge of the Rails based manager. I had some ideas about the manager at one point; it's the multi system setup part that was stumbling over. :) As soon as I can get some other stale projects finished, I'll start into this. One quick question to consider; in order for our app to manage a web server on port 80, it will need root access, or else some sort of sudo permission or group permission... in any case that means altering system files. Or else we have to run the app as root. I'm not too keen on that. Or maybe a setuid helper program to reload the web server? arg. This needs some thought. - -- David Morton Maia Mailguard - http://www.maiamailguard.com Morton Software Design and Consulting - http://www.dgrmm.net -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2.2 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFE1RypUy30ODPkzl0RAtWYAJwIa4k7aUZsAburtdKlIn7ofjP3ZQCgnEAx JUpeM3xz2dxy9u/AAPPQpRM= =HeI+ -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
