On my system, your program grows up to about 20 megs and stays around
that, never breaking the 22 meg barrier. Or so it seems. (I tried it
for about 10 minutes.)
This is very weird, because if I simply add a GC.start to every
iteration of the loop in my program, it grows at a constant rate,
unbounded as far as I can tell. However, it grows about 10x slower
than without the GC.start .
