Bring your own laptop and join the Foraker Labs crew on the second Thursday each month for free beer, food, and hacking. http://rubyonbeer.com Our next meeting is THURSDAY, November 10th, starting at 5:00PM at our office: Foraker Labs 4775 Walnut Street, Suite 200 Boulder, Colorado There will be food. And beer. And of course we'll be hacking on stuff. Feel free to bring your own project or just come and pair up on a code kata or two. And while we obviously love all things Ruby and Rails, we're really more interested in fellowship and learning new things. So don't be afraid to drop in if you're working in a different technology! Need more information? Got questions? Drop us a line at rubyonbeer at foraker.com. Planning on coming? Of course you are! This is a pretty huge project and it'll take some time to develop. I got a bit delayed kicking things off but I finally make a github repo for the project. All that exists is a basic Readme. At this point there is not concrete to work on but hopefully that will change in the coming months. If you're interested in helping out, please follow the repo and ping me via email or github messages. I will coordinate effort with all those interested to get some basic activities up for review. https://github.com/mghaught/Ruby-Handbook Cheers, Marty From charley.baker at gmail.com Fri Nov 4 18:08:59 2011 From: charley.baker at gmail.com (Charley Baker) Date: Fri, 4 Nov 2011 16:08:59 -0600 Subject: [Boulder Ruby Group] Global Code Retreat Day specifics - Denver Message-ID: Hey all, *Denver* Here are some details on the day, the space and signups. http://coderetreat.com/global_day.html http://www.eventbrite.com/event/2242350932 Feel free to let anyone know about this event, we are capping it at 30 for Denver, though there are additional events happening in other areas if you check out the map. Follow the links for more information on the space at Uncubed which has been graciously provided. Shout out to Uncubed for that!! I'd love to see some .Net and Java dudes coming for this if you have some contacts. I will talk to DJUG about it. *Sponsors!* * * We do need sponsors, so contact Prakash and me if you're interested in that and feel free to pass on our information to other user groups. *Additional Colorado Groups* * * In addition to that there are some Coderetreats in Fort Collins and Colorado Springs also happening. If you have links or contacts in those areas, send them on to Prakash and me. Prakash is synching up efforts around the state. :) Actually whitespace programmers are welcome but we might have to rope them off with invisible string. *Social Stuff* * * Tweet these groups and the sites listed above. The hashtag is #coderetreat and as I mentioned socialize it with every user group you know in the area. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. This should be fun. :) Cheers, Charley -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Paul Sadauskas will start things off with a talk on Presenters, Decorators, and Conductors. This will cover how to use advanced Rails patterns to handle the disconnect between skinny controllers and models that do way too much. I don't have anything else lined up so if anyone else wants to share something, please contact me offlist. It could be a short 5-10 presentation or a bit longer.
