Pivotal Labs is generously providing both food and beer for the meeting for those that want to come a bit early to hang out and socialize. Doors open at 6:30 for such activity. Tim Pease will present on Ruby Application Basics to start us off. Often times a simple one-off Ruby script needs to be turned into a full fledged application complete with command line option parsing, logging, daemonization, and configuration. This talk will take a look at various tools for accomplishing these tasks. Along the way will be some examples of best practices and creating a cohesive whole from these various parts. Following that, Gerred Dillon will talk about building high performance, API-driven applications using Goliath and managing them using Foreman. All in all should be an awesome meeting so I hope to see you all there. Cheers, Marty Haught http://boulderruby.org Directions: Everlater/Pivotal Labs 1701 Pearl St Boulder, CO 80302 Use the 17th St entrance closer to the alley on the NE side of the intersection. Two vacations have sidelined us and kept the website from being updated promptly. We'll have that fixed in the next day and blast out the new details. In the meantime, I do have a request. I need someone with print experience to help put together our printable program guides. We're not looking for anything amazing, just laying out ads, logos and text in a professional way. Please contact me if you can assist with this. First, I need someone that is solid with the modern Rails web stack (html, css, js, rails) with a touch of design sense. Your Rails knowledge isn't as vital as being able to make good looking changes to our site. There will be some design elements to it as we'll be creating new pages with different layouts that need to match up with the rest of the site. Second, I need someone that can help me immediately. It won't be a ton of hours but I need them ASAP. Finally, if you're good with copy that's an extra bonus but not necessary. I know several of you have asked over the past couple months if you can help with the conference. There's not a lot of places I can plug folks in but I now have need of some extra web help. So here's your chance. Email me offlist if you're interested and how soon you can get started. :) Cheers, Marty From mghaught at gmail.com Wed Jul 27 01:00:57 2011 From: mghaught at gmail.com (Marty Haught) Date: Tue, 26 Jul 2011 23:00:57 -0600 Subject: [Boulder Ruby Group] Rocky Mountain Ruby Sessions Online! We'll be rolling out more details on everything over the next week, including a detailed schedule of the session days. Sorry for the delay, July's been a hectic month that kept several of us busy with other things. Worry not, the conference planning is going well and we're looking forward to the end of August. One more thing, we have a discounted room rate at the Boulderado. They are currently holding rooms in reserve for us but they will be released come July 31st if they are not reserved. If you or someone you know was thinking of booking at the Boulderado, please do not delay.
