Rocky Mountain Ruby Conference 2011 We are pleased to be offering a below-cost discount of $100 off to students. Conferences are often financially out of reach for college students and we'd like to change that. In addition, Edge Case and Rocky Mountain Ruby are giving away a limited number of free tickets to a few select students. Contact rockymtnruby at humanoriented.com for more information. Rocky Mountain Ruby is a single track conference devoted to the Ruby programming language which features technical presentations, community events and outdoor experiences, in beautiful Boulder, Colorado at one of the best times of year. http://rockymtnruby.com/ For the student discount, contact rockymtnruby at humanoriented.com. When will you have > the schedule for the charity workshops? Knowing the content would help > me decide whether to take a day off work to attend. Hi Michael, I'll go ahead and CC the derailed/boulder ruby lists on my response. I hope to have the charity sessions posted in the next couple days. Obtiva is organizing the sessions and should have descriptions of them for me. My understanding is that they are waiting for a commitment on the last track. The initial plan was to have 3 tracks both with a morning and afternoon session. We hoped that there would be sessions for more than just beginners but I haven't seen what's been put together so I'm not sure how that will play out. It may turn out that we only have two tracks. We also hope to have the entire conference schedule ready by the end of this week. Since we're working with BusyConf on managing the schedule, it hasn't been totally in our hands to get it done. I will say that things are looking great for the program and schedule and I think most will be quite happy with things. Just one side note, the normal ticket price ends this week so please don't delay if you know you're going to attend. We have to lock in caterers and order t-shirts this week. The mini code retreat will be free for participants, and will be a practice event, focusing on the fundamentals of software development and design. Over three iterations of 45 minute paired programming and 15 minute retrospection, we aim to provide the developers with an opportunity to practice the basic principles of software design, and improve their ability to write code that minimises the cost of change over time. The event will be hosted at Trada office in Downtown Boulder; Trada will be arranging for food and drinks at the event as well. The event is intended to be an opportunity for non-rubyists to work with rubyists. If you are planning to attend, please RSVP at : http://minicoderetreat. eventbrite.com/ so that we know how many people to arrange for. We did this last year and it was a great success. I've expanded it into 3 tracks with material for beginners as well as though for seasoned devs. Read more here: http://rockymtnruby.com/charity_workshop The other cool thing, beyond raising money for charity, is that you do not need a conference pass to attend. You can also just go to a morning or afternoon session by itself. We have some excellent speakers putting these on and it's a great opportunity for our local community to learn and support our local charities. I believe there's still room for the workshops so don't hesitate to sign up. Cheers, Marty
