You can start the program, change the view, select another library, hide
several columns in the list view (from the Preferences dialog), setup
Ruby/amazon (still from the same dialog), move the window, resize the
window, resize the sidepane's slider, etc...  then quit.  When you will
reload Alexandria it should recover the same preferences.

BTW I introduced a .schemas file yesterday, (mainly to setup default
values) so maybe you should make sure your local repository is up to date
(you can check this by looking if you have a "shemas" directory in the
main directory).
