From cathal.alexandria at gnostai.org Tue Oct 16 13:56:03 2007 From: cathal.alexandria at gnostai.org (Cathal Mc Ginley) Date: Tue, 16 Oct 2007 18:56:03 +0100 Subject: [Alexandria-i18n-list] Request for translations for 0.6.2 Message-ID: <1192557364.25602.43.camel@matilda> Hello translators! My name is Cathal Mc Ginley, I'm a fairly-new administrator on the Alexandria project. If you haven't been following the alexandria-list then you may not be aware that development has started up again and a beta of Alexandria 0.6.2 was recently released. Now that I've got my own gettext environment sorted out (and created updated po files), it's time to request updated translations for an official release. As usual, there is no deadline. We intend to push out a non-beta release perhaps within a week, but more releases are intended to follow rapidly, so any later translations can be included then. If you have the latest SVN of alexandria (r761) then you can start working on the newly merged po files. You can also download your po file from this web location http://alexandria.rubyforge.org/svn/trunk/alexandria/po/ Several of you have SVN write access, and I think you should still be able to use the commit-po script to upload your changes. Otherwise, e-mail the po file to me when it is translated. I am very grateful for anyone who still has time to translate Alexandria, especially after such a long lull in development. If you no longer have time, please e-mail me so I'll know if any translations are without active translators. Thanks, - Cathal. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Well, unsurprisingly there have been a few people dropping out from the translation team from lack of time, and because they're not using Alexandria any more. Thank you for getting back to me so promptly, and thanks for your past work on Alexandria. So we now need (at least) new translators for the Sweedish and Czech translations. Joachim Breitner committed his changes to the German translation directly via SVN, thanks! I'm just wondering is there anyone else still subscribed to this list who still has time to do translations? I'm not rushing anyone, it's just so I know if it's a matter of waiting for the translations or a matter of putting out a general call for translators for the rest of the languages? However, there seems to be a problem with running a Ubuntu Gutsy VM in Qemu with gutsy as host (I recently upgraded my workstation to the latest Ubuntu), so I have not been able to test my translation yet. Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend to try to sort the Qemu problems out. Lennart Karssen. I suppose there should be something like a "string freeze" around now for developers. I'm mostly concentrating on fixing up bugs anyway before the 0.6.2 release, so the user-interface strings shouldn't be changing before the release. I'm rather new to the job of 'free software project administrator'... :^) > Best regards, > > L?gia Moreira > Cheers, - Cathal. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I don't know if it is because I compiled it in a wrong way or because the string is not exactly equal in the .po. I'm a bit of a newcomer to gettext myself, but if you look at de.po and search for plural, you should get an example of how plurals are handled in gettext. The gettext info manual, chapter 3 "The Format of PO Files" deals with all the details of how plural forms work. Or there's the HTML version: http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/manual/gettext.html#PO-Files > Other thing: I updated my e-mail. The other address (@alu.uclm.es) does > not exists. I hope you didn't feel rushed or anything, I was just trying to see if we had any translators left working on Alexandria after such a long pause in development. Hopefully Alexandria will soon be stable enough that you can test it locally without risking corruption of your library. There have recently been a few such bugfixes. > In the mean while, here's my Dutch translation. > It looks good. (I test it locally by running 'rake install' and then invoking Alexandria with 'LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8 alexandria') You'll of course need the latest SVN version of Alexandria to test it correctly; apart from anything else, the Rakefile for 0.6.2b1 didn't install any .mo files. I think you have only a single untranslated message (at line 391). I'm not sure what PO editors everyone is using, but running 'make check' in the po/ directory should give a summary of completed translations.
