SUBJECT: RE: JDBC Driver Spec I'll listen to the podcast later tonight, thanks. The docs intrigue me, he is looking at JDBC for a model for DBIv2? Guess I need to brush up on my java (if only because my main projects at work use perl and DBI).
The big thing we're gonna be tackling in the next release is an attempt to abstract the majority of the type conversion away from the DBDs. In almost all cases, there is too much work being done in this regard, and if DBI is a strong enough reason to stay away from reinventing the wheel DBDs will be simpler to maintain, something I want to aim towards for a variety of really good reasons.
Anyways, the more people involved in this effort, the better, but I really prefer email for long discussions. Please sign up for the -devel-new list, we'd love to have your input. :) | |
