Great, got even better. RE: Very nice program [ reply ] 2006-07-03 22:50

Thanks Michael, Bill and whoever also added to this. I like the new version! Besides the things I wished for, it also allows one to edit past entries, a feature I missed (you walk away wanting to do one thing and end up doing another, come back and see that another activity is running) but was too shy to ask after all the other things I suggested.
Great work!

I submitted a patch to 1.03 (in patches) that shows the current activity on the title bar with the format "WTR - activity name" or just "Work Time Recorder" if there's no current activity. I made it work even when not minimized because I never minimize the window but it is often at least partially obscured by other windows. There were also certain conditions when the title bar wasn't being updated so I fixed them.
If the program showed up only as a system try icon and not on the task bar, I couldn't just glance at the task bar and see the current state.

Thanks for the feedback. I hope you find the application useful. I also appreciate your comments regarding new features - I will definitely put them on my "to do" list. I'll have to think about the tray icon idea. I have actually prototyped something like this before (in C#), but I'm not sure the FoxRuby GUI toolkit that I'm using supports tray icons. I'll look into it. Thanks again for your comments. Please feel free to post any problems or ideas for new features.

I just stumbled over your program and like it already, does what it should do and that very efficient. Great work!
If I may also make some suggestions for further improvements:
- I like the export option suggested earlier.
- If you add an about box with a link to the homepage people can get updates easier.
- It would be nice to have a 'task switch' when double clicking onto a different activity (right now you have to click and then right-click start)
- My ultimate dream for task switching would be a tray icon which opens up the list of tasks upon (left) clicking on it. The new activity is then selected simply by clicking on it. The 'safely remove hardware' icon can serve as an example for my wish. I know that this may be very hard to program, but would make the use much more ergonomic.
Thanks again for your nice program
Ralf
