For everyone who have traditionally used the Ruby/LDAP C driver to connect to LDAP, JRuby/LDAP have now been released. It is interface compatible and uses JNDI beneath the covers to get access to a strong LDAP implementation.
Installation is as easy as:
jruby -S gem install jruby-ldap
